Famiy at Rosegardens Homestay Munnar

Rosegardens is an Eco-friendly Farm stay started in 1994 by Mr. Tomy Joseph. It is a Heritage Building Approved by the tourism department of Kerala.

Rosegardens was built and started by late Mr. Joseph Pallattukunnel in 1920 who was a large-scale producer of Spices like Cardamom, Pepper, Clove, Nutmeg, and Vanilla & Coffee in the area. Inherited by his 5’Th son (catholic tradition) Mr. Tomy Joseph who was a Botanist converted it into a farm and garden.

Mr. Tomy was asked to design gardens and do an Annual Maintenance to different Hotels and Resorts in Munnar, he then decided to start a plant nursery and provide plants to those who are interested ones. Once when he was working in one of the Hotels, a Couple who came from Spain who came to enjoy their Honeymoon in Munnar was wonder-struck by the flowers in hotel and checked with the manager regarding the plants and found that it was grown and arranged by Tomy and wanted to meet him, after having a chat with Tomy they wanted to come and visit the Farm and Nursery. Towards the end of the visit they very really impressed with the Farm and wanted to stay for a night to experience the fresh air, and Tomy agreed to that and they had an evening meal from the house cooked by Tomy’s wife Raji, next day in the morning they were not willing to leave and they stayed for a couple of nights. During their stay they learned a lot about the locality and also discovered local Kerala food which was an Experience that they could never forget. Before they left Rosegardens they requested Tomy & Family that they should do something for the tourism in the area. That is when Tomy came up with the Idea of Homestay or Bed Breakfast.

He first started the property with 1 room and then the demand forced to expand, now there are 5 well furnished rooms offered to the guests who come to Munnar. We have received guests from around the globe, around 104 nationalities and counting. Tomy, Raji, Dileep, Deepak & Deepu hope to provide the guests with the understanding of hill farming while maintaining the property as an inheritance for the future generations.
